How do you handle a book you don’t like? Do you DNF or do you power through?
I am usually really patient with books, especially if they have a lot of hype (yes, I'm that person). Otherwise, I usually give the book a few chapters because a lot of books (especially the classics) start off slowly.
The only exception would be if the plot is becoming a little cliched or if it's so predictable that I don't want to waste my time with it. I recently started a YA dystopian novel which featured a "strong" female heroine, some magical property that makes her special and the requisite love triangle. I was like screw this.

I usually DNF a book. New follower :) Check out my FF at www.myviewpointonbooks.blogspot.com
ReplyDeleteI know exactly what you mean about the overdone plot lines... especially love triangles!!For me, I just don't have time to power through a book I don't like. There's way too many books on my TBR to waste time with a book I'm not enjoying even a little bit.

I used to power through, but don't see the point in reading something I don't like. Way too many books waiting to be read!

Ha, the "screw this" sounded a lot like me when my favorite series just gets horrible or a book is utterly stupid. Thanks for hopping by. I followed back via GFC and Bloglovin! You have a great new blog!

I try to do the same, give a few chapters. After that if I'm still not convinced I bail. There are just too many books on the TBR list :) New bloglovin follower. Happy Friday & thanks for stopping by my FF!

Yeah I know what you mean - I usually try but if it's really bad sadly I have to DNF.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the follow - following back :)
Everyone always tell me I don't have patients, so it doesn't surprise me that I set books aside. New GFC Follower :)

I think I've read that dystopian too, lol. Aren't they all like that? When I feel like I've read this exact book before, that's the fastest way for me to DNF a book.

Hmm, it'll only let me access a cached version of your blog so I can't comment but I did follow back via Bloglovin!
DeleteI agree, a book that is a pale copy of others should be DNF'ed. I just need to make myself actually do it, I guess.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my FF post earlier. I'm following you back via Bloglovin.
I DNF sometimes but I don't review them. Great post! I'm one of this week's featured bloggers :) www.themilelongbookshelf.com
ReplyDeleteGood for you! Some times you just gotta say "this isn't even worth my time"
ReplyDeleteI'm following on bloglovin'!
I usually stick it out with the hope that it's going to improve. If it doesn't then that's pretty much it for the series and the author. Following you back on Bloglovin'

I was recently reading The Edge of Never and DNFed that - but it's really popular, so maybe I should try it again? New bloglovin' follower :3

ReplyDeleteGood answer ha ha! There's only so many times you want to read the same thing! And you're right about classics- those often do need a little more patience. :) New follower via GFC and bloglovin.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by, following back (bloglovin). rather than stick with it I will put it down and come back to it
ReplyDeleteSo sick of the obligatory love triangle...
ReplyDeleteI used to power through books I didn't like but now I'm more likely to DNF.

I am more likely to give leeway to classics than modern books when it comes to DNF's. Thanks for stopping by and following. I am following back through GFC

"I was like screw this" <- LOL so great. I think it's very commendable to try and push through as much as you can, but sometimes it's just not possible. Thank you so much for stopping by my FF and following. New Bloglovin Follower :D Jaclyn @ JC's Book Haven.
ReplyDeleteI try to be patient too! I feel bad when I'm not. If I do that though, i usually put it down read something else and come back to it. I don't usually give up completely on it!

You're funny. I think that's why I kind of shy away from the paranormal genre ... they're all starting to sound the same ;P
